Happy 2013

Happy new year to one and all! I cannot believe I survived my first quarter as a SLP!

I truly could not have done it without this wonderful SLP community which provides so much more than just materials to use during therapy sessions. I also couldn't have done it without some wonderful individuals who are there to support and help guide me through my first year in the school district.... and let's not forget Happy Hour with the co-workers always seems to help.

I also want to send a sincere thank you to those of your who have purchased from my TPT store. I truly could not have even imagined that I would actually be "brave" enough to put items in a TPT store for sale. Even for those who have not purchased, thank you for even just reading my blog.

I just posted a companion packet to "The Mitten". This is one of the stories that I will be reading with my students for the month of January. Take a look at my TPT store.

(I'll add screen shots later tonight)

I am also working on a Favorite Items of 2012 list (therapy/non-therapy materials). What are some items that you couldn't have survived 2012 without. And I am also working on a little non-therapy post about what I did over the winter break. It truly did end too quickly but I am happy to see my students again. I feel like this 2 week break was exactly what we all needed.

What were some fun things that you did over break? Did you start school this week too like me or are you one of the lucky ones who doesn't start until next Monday?

Looking ahead:

-Winter break post
-Favorite things of 2012 post
-The Jacket Companion Activity
-Anterior-Posterior Speech Sounds Packet

Weekend Blues Plus More Posts on my TpT Store

Happy Sunday everyone!

So one thing that many individuals who are working in the school system for the first time can attest to is that they got sick various times during their first year. I had recently just gotten over a bug that had been going around my two schools to only get another bug this weekend. I spent a good majority of my weekend in bed/on the couch resting.

I guess that a plus side to being sick this weekend is that I posted two more additional items on my TpT store.

One thing that I found difficult was finding wordlists for my students who are just beginning to learn a new sound and we are progress from CV words to CVC words. Don't get me wrong.... I love my jumbo articulation book and super duper cards but sometimes those words are too difficult for my students especially those working on the /f/ and /v/ sounds. So I decided to make some monosyllabic CVC cards for /f/ and /v/.

You can pick up this packet from my TpT Store.

Another thing that I created this weekend was a catch-all winter themed packet. I figured that this packet was something I could use beyond the holidays since I know that December is just going to fly by. Many of my students are working on answering "wh" questions so I made some "what" and "where" questions cards with pictures on the answer cards.

Then I decided to add something a little more basic such as yes/no questions. I currently work with two autism classrooms in my district and yes/no questions are a struggle for many of them. I find that a lot of my students answer yes when I know for sure the object is not their preferred choice so I wanted to work on this skill with them more.
I also threw in some directions following cards and basic concepts because these are skills my students are working on across the board.

Hope you all enjoy the products! Please let me know if you do end up purchasing any of these and how they worked for you/what could I have done better.

Hope you all had a great weekend and think only a few weeks before winter break is here!

Welcome and hello!

Welcome and hello to Speechie Palooza. I have been inspired by a few speech blogs (Speech Room News & Simply Speech to name a few) which I follow avidly to start a blog of my own. As a new SLP I am always looking for/wanting to create materials that will motivate and inspire my kiddos during their speech therapy sessions.

Follow me through my journey as I embark upon my clinical fellowship year. As a welcome and thank you for checking out my blog, I want to give you all a free download at my TpT store.

Enjoy everyone! Hopefully more to come soon!
